Construction Craft Worker
The Construction Craft Worker (CCW) Apprenticeship is an extremely versatile program that offers the trainee the capacity to work in a variety of sectors and construction fields.
Brick and Stone masonry
A Brick and Stone Mason is also known as a Bricklayer. A Bricklayer specializes in preparing and laying brick, concrete blocks, stone and structural tiles and other masonry units. They are also trained to repair walls, partitions, patios, arches, paved surfaces, fireplaces and chimneys.
Cement Finisher
In our Cement Finisher Apprenticeship, trainees will learn how to place, finish and protect concrete surfaces. Cement Finishers work on a wide variety of vertical and horizontal surfaces and structures such as, concrete floors, wall, sidewalks, stairs, driveways, curbs, gutters, damns, bridges and tunnels.
Construction Skills
Introduction to Blueprint reading.
In this introductory course the student will learn the basic concepts of how to read and interpret construction drawings.
Advanced Blueprint Reading
This course develops blueprint reading skills and Building Code interpretation skills. The course focuses on plan reading for High Rise residential construction and similar non-wood frame type structures built of concrete and steel.
Vacuum Truck Program - 1400 Hours
*This program is ONLY for experienced users/union members that require an update on the proper safety and handling around vac trucks.
GPS- Surveying (Night)
The GPS Surveying program gives workers who are performing layout duties for contractors an opportunity to learn the latest in technology and bring their skills up to date. This program would apply to the Roads, High Rise and Sewer and Water Main Sectors.
Asphalt Worker
The Asphalt Worker program provides hands on training in the placement, spreading, raking, as well as, compaction of asphalt materials.
Bridge Construction
The Training Centre offers a Bridge Construction program where trainees will learn to construct and install footing forms by establishing starting points and learning to cut and install side boards, as well as, aligning and supporting forms.
Drain and Concrete
In this five week program offered by the LiUNA Local 183 Training Centre, trainees will be taught the industry standard techniques used to install sanitary drainage systems including traps and clean outs.
Demolition Worker Training
This program will provide trainees with an overall understanding of the Demolition Sector.
GPS - Surveying
The Training Centre offers a Bridge Construction program where trainees will learn to construct and install footing forms by establishing starting points and learning to cut and install side boards, as well as, aligning and supporting forms.
High Rise Forming
The High Rise Construction Sector consists of various trades all working on one building.
High Rise Rodman
In the High Rise Rodman program trainees will learn to cut, bend, layout and place reinforcing steel rods, welded wire fabric and composite materials in a wide variety of poured concrete products and structures.
House Framing
Wood Framing continues to be one of the most common methods used to build homes in Canada.
Landscaping
In the Landscaping program, trainees will learn various aspects of landscaping such as surveying, interlocking brick and basic blueprint reading.
Low Rise Forming
The Low Rise Forming program focuses on building the foundation of residential homes.
Residential Handyman
The Residential Handyman program is tailored to suit the needs of those wanting to learn the fundamentals of various trades.
Residential Trim
To coincide with the economic growth in the High Rise Construction Sector, a Residential Trim program has been added to the program guide.
Road Construction
The LiUNA Local 183 Training Centre Road Construction program has been one of the Centre’s signature programs and has run successfully over the last 15 years.
Sewer and Water Main
In this eight (8) week program, trainees will be introduced and become familiar with blueprint reading and surveying.
Tile Setting
The Tile Setting program will focus on installing tiles in the Residential Sector.
Utilities
The LiUNA Local 183 Training Centre offers a Utilities program which exposes trainees to work in many aspects of the Utility Sector.
